Veteran singer-songwriter Kevin Welch has played a thousand-plus shows in his lifetime, yet never staged a tour that brought him to Montana. It’s about time. For this tour, Kevin and his son Dustin will share the stage together, trading songs from their extensive catalogs and accompanying each other throughout the night, with Kevin on guitar and Dustin playing banjo and resonator guitar.
Kevin Welch has released 10 albums since 1990, including two on Warner Brothers Records that solidified his place in the musical movement that soon became known as Americana. Several more records came out on the artist-owned record label Dead Reckoning, including one that landed at #1 on the Americana Music chart. Over the past 30 years, his songs have been recorded by some of music’s most revered performers, including country music legends like Roger Miller, Garth Brooks, Ray Price, Charlie Pride and The Highwaymen (Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Kris Kristofferson); bluegrass luminaries Ricky Skaggs, Del McCoury and Earl Scruggs; soul legend Solomon Burke, and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame legend Linda Ronstadt.
Dustin Welch’s travels have taken him from Music City USA – his hometown of Nashville – to his current home in Austin, Texas, widely known as The Live Music Capitol of the World. Naturally, music found its way into his life from an early age. By his own account, he didn’t get serious about music “until I was about eight years old,” eventually teaching himself banjo and devising a unique bare-fingered, open-tuned style heavy on Appalachian flavored grooves. After relocating to Austin, he’s recorded and released two albums independently and has become devoted to the San Marcos, Texas chapter of Soldier Songs & Voices, a weekly songwriting and guitar workshop for veterans of the Armed Forces.
